Glyff builds on what I learned after making Sequential A and is conceptually rooted in Greek and Scottish language. The Greek verb glyphein (γλύφειν) means “to carve,” which led to glyphe (γλυφή), referring to a carved or inscribed mark. Over time, this evolved into glyph, now used to describe a visual symbol or character in a writing system. The second root comes from the Scottish word gliff, meaning a brief flash, sudden glimpse, or momentary scare. It describes something quick, fleeting, and slightly unsettling.
The combination of these terms, carved marks and fleeting perception, led to the project Glyff.
A huge thank you to my friend Davis Dial, for his incredible work and collaboration on sound design.
